Description
After driving down Wager Gulch from Carson Pass the previous afternoon, I drove towards Cinnamon Pass to reach the Cooper Creek Trailhead. I camped there for the night and was back up early to attempt two more Colorado Bi-Centennial Peaks. Cooper Creek is the next drainage past Silver Creek which is used to hike 14er Redcloud Peak, 14er Sunshine Peak, Centennial Point 13832, and Centennial Point 13811.
The trail up Cooper Creek is easy to follow and gradual. I was able to maintain my usual slow pace and really enjoyed the valley and scenery once the sun was up. The trail steepens a bit as you climb towards Cooper Lake and the ridge you need to gain to hike these two Bi-Centennial Peaks. Once on the ridge, you lose the trail but the hiking remains generally easy with great views of the surrounding peaks.
I made it to Every Mountain and then traversed over to Cooper Creek Peak in about one hour. I back-tracked a bit on the ridge before dropping into Cooper Creek and finding the trail I hiked up to return to the trailhead. It was an enjoyable day to two relatively easy Bi-Centennial Peaks.
Despite having similar elevation gain but a few more miles than my hike from the previous day, I completed it in exactly the same time at exactly the same times because much of this route is on a trail or easy cross country hiking. I started at 5:45 am and returned to the trailhead by 1:45 pm for an 8-hour car-to-car day with 15 minutes on each summit.
The map/LIDAR elevations for Every Mountain are 13,691'/13,698' which moved it from #150 to #149 when considering all other elevation changes. The map/LIDAR elevations for Cooper Creek Peak are 13,688'/13,694' which kept it at #152 when considering all other elevations changes.
