Description

It had been nine years since I climbed Avocado Gully.  Brian, Nick, and I left Glenwood Springs, Colorado, at 8:00 am and quickly found the pull off for the climb south of Carbondale, Colorado.  The approach is really short and we geared up at the base of pitch 1.  This pitch rarely forms and most people walk around up to the second pitch to start their climb.  There was enough new snow that we could solo the short pitch 1 without dulling our tools and crampons too much.

Nick led pitch 2 and brought Brian and I up on bolted anchors on climber's right.  The second pitch was thin but climbable.  Brian led pitch 3 and brought Nick and I up on bolted anchors on climber's right.  We did two rappels and then walked down to the base of pitch 1.  Apparently Avocado Gully hasn't been in for several years, so we were grateful to make it up the route.
