Description

This is a great little hike about 12 miles to the west of Poncha Springs, Colorado, as you head up Monarch Pass.  Finding Forest Service Road 230 is a little tricky, but you just need to keep an eye out for the old snowmobile repair shop.  We drove 1.5 miles up a moderately steep and difficult four-wheel-drive road to get to the trailhead.  Many individuals simply start at the highway and hike to Boss Lake.  From the upper trailhead, it was about a mile to Boss Lake and then another mile to get to Hunt Lake.  Trail No. 1420 is part of the Colorado Trail.  The trail between Boss Lake and Hunt Lake was pretty wet and muddy, but we eventually made it and took in the views of the surrounding mountains.
