Description

Most of my hiking partners have done the Halo Ridge to Mount of the Holy Cross, so I decided to hike it also.  I started at the Half Moon Trailhead and went to Half Moon Pass before leaving the trail and going over Point 12743, Notch Mountain, Point 13224, Point 13248, Point 13373, and Point 13831 (Halo Ridge Peak), to get to Mount of the Holy Cross.  It was a pretty big day with plenty of miles and elevation gain.  All of the points on the ridge seemed legitimate with plenty of gain in between peaks except Point 12743, but I added it to my list anyway.  The only mandatory scrambling was between Notch Mountain and Point 13224, but I stayed fairly close to the ridge and was able to add plenty of class 3 throughout the day.  It was a grind of a day including the elevation gain to get back out of East Cross Creek on the way out.  I think it would be easier to do this hike counter clockwise with shorter gains on the way out and not having to exit East Cross Creek, but it was nice to have a trail on the hike out when I was fairly tired. My car-to-car time was 7 hours and 45 minutes.
