Description

Jeff and I drove up I-70 to make a few quick laps on The Shroud in Officers Gulch.  I've seen this piece of ice several times from the road, but have never climbed there before.  Similar to Grace Falls, I led the easiest line I could identify which ended up being in the WI3+ range.  After Jeff cleaned the route, we set up a top rope and got several more laps in on the harder ice in the center of the flow.  Another party showed up for just one lap.  When their leader reached the top of the climb he yelled "take" and his belayer thought he said "off belay" and took him off.  When the leader yelled "lower" I quickly told him to wait and had the guy at the base put him back on belay before the climber on top weighted the rope.  A disaster was averted.
