Description

The ice climbing in the Front Range has been hard to come by this season.  I had some free time over the holidays, so I went to Ouray, Colorado, to climb in the ice park which had just opened.  This ended up being a poor decision for the most part and we only got a couple laps in on this day.  Only a few sections of the park were open, and many large parties would set up ropes on multiple anchors and then just stay there all day.  The park was way too busy for me to enjoy.  I didn't see any rangers keeping the limit to three hours as it is supposed to be.  It was an overall bad experience for me and reminded me of why I quit climbing in the park many years ago.  The park is great and serves a purpose, but there are lots of inexperienced climbers.  I realize this is expected in the park, but there is limited courtesy and just generally bad vibes for me.
