Description

Butler Mountain is located approximately 5 miles east of Cocallala, Idaho.  This was another appealing Spring hike because of the lower elevation and the close proximity to home.  This hike is to the north of Three Sisters Peaks, and some of the photos look similar with the exception of the direction they are taken from.  From the first step of the trail to the top of the ridge, this was a relentless hike that did not provide any long gentle switchbacks for easy walking.  Just below the ridge, the trail was covered with snow for most of the way to Butler Mountain.  I would only catch sections of the tread here and there, so I left a trail of twigs sticking up in my path to help me navigate on my return.  After reaching the ridge, I was graciously rewarded with spectacular views of Lake Pend Oreille.  Payton and I played around in the snow for a while and I took some photos before we went back down.
