Description

On this hike, I overlooked the fact that although it may be comfortable at 2,000' in Sandpoint, Idaho, it may not be at 5,000'.  Brendon and I kind of got skunked on this hike, but not as bad as I originally thought after making it to the lake via the south route in 1999.  The trailhead had very little snow on it, so we figured it couldn't be that bad and started up the trail.  I didn't wear pants while I was hiking, and that didn't help matter.  After about 2.5 miles and 2.5 frost bitten toes, we wondered if we were going to find the lake.  The trail wasn't extremely difficult and we felt we were close, but we turned around before getting to the actual lake.  We ate lunch and quickly returned to the Trooper.  I didn't manage to get any photos of the area.
