Description

Although Gem Lake is a relatively short hike, it does gain a fair amount of elevation in a short distance.  This hike is located close to Lake Estelle, Moose Lake, and Blacktail Lake.  When we departed from the Trooper, it was a very pleasant morning, and by the time we reached the lake, the snow was coming down moderately.  We had learned a significant lesson from Harrison and I actually wore pants.  We got a little chilled by sitting around and eating, so we scrambled around on some rocks for a while before packing up and calling it a day.  For some reason, Payton really enjoys the snow and did some sledding on the way back down.  When we returned to the trailhead it was very nice again with no snow.
